The Health Information Network of South Texas (HINSTX) is a community partnership of public, private and non-profit organizations in South Texas.  The HINSTX is committed to developing and applying health information technologies that aid in expanding access to quality health care and improving health outcomes for all people through the timely exchange of medical information.

The health care system of the future will be increasingly more reliant on technology to aid in the secure exchange of health information among providers to avoid redundancy in medical tests for individual patients.  The ability to rapidly share health care information can increase overall health care quality.  A truly integrated network yields the potential for improved access to providers, affording patients earlier and more accurate diagnoses.  Given the significant potential associated with this initiative, and coupled with the government’s Health Care Reform initiatives, network members within South Texas have recognized and acted upon the need to organize in an effort to ensure that the region will be well represented at all stages of the State and Federal planning process in the implementation of health information technology.

The Network members agree that the HINSTX would take the lead to:

  • Represent the community within the State of Texas health information exchange planning Process
  • Act as the neutral entity through which the community will leverage its existing health information infrastructure for the purpose of developing a community based health information exchange.
